Motorcycle Ride North Rim (Part 2)

North Rim Lodge - Motorcycle Ride North Rim

This is Part Two in our Series that started with The Best Motorcycle Rides – Kanab, Utah.  Motorcycle Ride North Rim will be our first of several rides from a base camp in Kanab. The series assumes that you will making Kanab, Utah a base from which to ride from. Kanab is located in the center of some of the most beautiful of the National Parks.

Motorcycle Ride North Rim

The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is the less visited side of Grand Canyon National Park. Although it is the same Park, the North Rim is much different than the South Rim and offers amazing views. Motorcycle Ride North Rim will fill a full day of riding. You may want to bring some food and definitely a camera. Also, it can get quite cool at times. The North Rim is 1,000 ft. higher than the South Rim.

From Kanab head south on 89 toward Fredonia then on to Jacob Lake. At Jacob Lake take 67 south into the North Rim part of the Grand Canyon National park. The driving distance from Kanab to the North Rim Lodge is roughly 80 making the round trip 160 miles.

Plan to spend some time at the North Rim Lodge. You will probably want to take the hike to Bright Angel Point. It’s an easy hike and worth the time. Don’t forget your camera.

I suggest having lunch at the Lodge before heading back north.  There aren’t many restaurants after you get into the Park.

Motorcycle Ride North Rim the Return

After you have spent enough time at the North Rim Lodge area you’ll retrace your ride into the park heading north on 67. On the Way north you will see signs pointing to Cape Royal and Point Imperial.

It doesn’t matter which one you visit first but go to both. This is the most enjoyable part of the ride to me. The road wind and twist through heavily wooded park area with abundant wild life and of course spectacular views.

Spend as much time as you like at both Point Imperial and Cape Royal. But keep an eye on the time. The return trip to Kanab is the better part of 80 miles away and you don’t want to be late for dinner J. Enjoy! There are awesome rides ahead.

Keep a look out for Part Four.
