On his way to dinner, Joseph Calderazzo, on his Harley, a silver Pontiac moved in front of him, apparently trying to force him off the road.
When stopping at the next light at the intersection of County Line Road and US 41, Joseph, who is a navy veteran decided to give the driver a piece of his mind i the form of some driving advice.
At this point, the Pontiac’s driver backed up and then sped forward, knocking the Harley over as well as Joseph and his passenger. The move caught Joseph completely off guard.
Fortunately, it was all caught on video by another motorist.
After watching the video, Caldero commented “We know we got hit, but when you see it the video, Oh My God. We could have died.”Joseph sustained a broken fibula and sprained his knee. His passenger, Melanie Milinkovich, wasn’t hurt.
The Pontiac’s Driver, Robert Vance from nearby Land O’ Lakes sped off. Some motorists that witnessed the altercation followed him and found him at 129 Lutz Lake Fern Road.
When a FHP patrolman arrived at 129 Lutz Lake Fern Road he found that Robert Vance had changed a tire on the Pontiac. The officer found a damaged tire in the trunk. The damage was what would be expected in the altercation.
As per the FHP Vance later confessed to ramming the harley and it’s driver and passenger.
Vance was charged with two counts of attempted murder. He was also charged with Leaving The Scene of an accident with injury, as well as driving with a suspended license and being an habitual traffic offender. He was being held in the Pasco County Jail. Bail Bond has been set at $115,000.
FHP Sgt. Steve Gaskins stated that had Vance been a few more inches to the right, injuries would have been much worse.
Vance has been declared an habitual traffic offender two times. He has been convicted of DUI, reckless driving, and has had his license revoked numerous times. Currently his license suspension will expire on June 4, 2017.
There is a long list of more serious charges again Vance from 2011 and 2012.
Witnesses to the accident couldn’t believe that Calderazzo and his passenger were able to even stand up afterwards.
Abe Garcia, who took the video that was posted on YouTube described the accident as “moving from 0 to 100 “real quick” He managed to catch the road rage even on video because he took out his camera after noticing the Pontiac driving erratically while driving home.
Social media is filled with local incidents of road rage. A YouTube video that shows a scuffle between a driver and bikers in the middle of the Courtney Campbell Highway went viral in April. After a motorcyclist punched the driver, his passenger exited the car wielding a pistol.
